Richard Rivera is a painter and art educator born in Bogotá, Colombia, based in Burlington Ontario.  He got his bachelor degree in fine arts from the National University of Colombia in 1996. Thanks to a scholarship granted for the Italian Government he also studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Italy from 1998 to 1999. Back in his country, he dedicated almost two decades as a  teacher in drawing, painting and illustration at University level, participating in the production of two drawing education books, and working in his art project.

4 years ago, he became established in Canada, where he spends his time preparing artworks for his personal project and working as an art workshop facilitator and graphic designer.

Richard works in oil, watercolour, drawing and digital painting and paints predominantly faces and human figures with minimal backgrounds and vibrant colours in order to draw full attention to the subject’s expressions and intimate emotions.
