Hamilton Conservatory for the Arts’ dance program focuses on developing healthy dance skills while also fostering a life-long love of and appreciation for dance. HCA emphasizes well-balanced training, body awareness, injury prevention, and working as an ensemble. We develop and train in the Vaganova method, with young students working towards ballet exams through the Society of Russian Ballet.
Starting at the Primary class level, students begin taking ballet exams each Spring. The instructor accompanies students in a group examination at HCA. Students are evaluated on their technical and artistic skills, as well as the overall execution of the syllabus. Each child is provided with written feedback that fosters continual growth and improvement, along with an official certificate and pin from the Society of Russian Ballet.
Ongoing Skill Development
As our focus is more on skill development, HCA does not offer a competitive dance program. However, we often have performance opportunities for our dedicated students. In our Creative Futures program, students from ages 11-18 have the opportunity for additional training from renowned guest choreographers. In the past, young students have worked with the likes of Andrea Nann, Sebastian ‘Bash’ Hirtenstein, and William Yong. Within this special program, students are able to explore the process of choreography, learn the dedication required within a dance company, and learn an additional work to be performed at our annual HCA Celebrates dance recital.
High Quality Instruction
At HCA, we take pride in our quality of dance education, and will ensure that each student is receiving the most up-to-date technique; our highly-qualified dance instructors engage in annual seminars and professional development workshops.
Free Trial Classes
We encourage potential students to try a class before registering, as long as there is space in the class. We encourage students to participate fully in these free trial classes, rather than simply observe.
