NEW! HCA Teen Creation Collective (Entering Gr. 8-12)

Perform at the Hamilton Fringe! Explore acting and devised theatre with two artist educators who are also professional actors/theatre-makers. Over the course of this summer intensive program, students will finesse creation and acting techniques by working together to co-create and perform a piece of devised theatre with fellow classmates and instructors.

All participants will receive a complimentary Fringe Youth Access Pass as part of their registration fee.


PROGRAM INFORMATION

The company will rehearse at HCA between July 8-19 before participating in a 9-day run of the developed piece as part of the Hamilton Fringe Festival.

Fringe Performance Dates – All performances will be at HCA at 7pm (with additional 3pm matinee on Saturday, July 27)

Devised theatre is the process of collectively creating a performance piece of as a group - starting from scratch, using movement, text, music and any other creative form of interest to build story, script and then performance.

Absolutely! This intensive is the perfect introduction to devising theatre, and is ideal for students with any amount of theatre experience.

Each day, students will participate in acting classes and devising workshops, including games and exercises to build performance skills as well as creation techniques that will help us create content to shape a final performance piece. Throughout the process, students will learn rehearsal techniques, and working alongside the instructors as co-performers, perform in a public presentation at the Hamilton Fringe Festival.

The Hamilton Fringe Festival is a 10-day long theatre festival in Hamilton, Ontario, that includes over 50 shows at several venues across the downtown core. Both local companies and companies from all over the world present work at the Hamilton Fringe.

HCA’s Teen Creation Collective will be presenting their piece at the Hamilton Conservatory for the Arts as part of the Fringe’s site-specific movement.

Because of the collaborative nature of devising theatre, participants are required to commit to the entirety of the program including the Fringe performances.

Companies like Frantic Assembly (Curious Incident of the Dog at Nighttime - Broadway, West End and Mirvish) have used devised methods to create ground-breaking theatre presentations. Devised theatre is an amazing opportunity to work in an ensemble, create something relevant and meaningful to you, and be writer and performer. Who wants to choose?
