Junior Musical Theatre Ensemble builds the skills and confidence young performers need to love being on stage, from singing and moving to acting and working together as a company. It is also a first step toward auditioning for school and community musicals. Students will study voice, dance, and acting for the stage through classic and contemporary musical theatre repertoire, working on ensemble numbers, small group pieces, and solo material. Every student has solo moments to shine and performs in the ensemble.

Each student receives individual attention and feedback shaped by their personal goals, whether that is a first time on stage, a stronger voice, or greater ease in front of an audience. Students will learn how to prepare a song, take direction in a rehearsal, and perform with confidence, and they will share their work with an audience three times over the year. They will grow more comfortable on stage and discover what they enjoy most about performing.

Term One (September-November): 

Ensemble Skills
Students will take dance, voice, and acting workshops, learn to follow direction and move together as a group, and tell stories through staged production numbers. The term ends with our annual MTE Winter Showcase in December.

Term Two (December-March): 

Choreography, Music, and Acting Through Song
Students will take a deeper look at the three core skills of musical theatre. They will learn and perform more challenging choreography, strengthen their singing and musicianship, and practice acting through song by making clear choices about character and story.

Term Three (March-June): 

Polish and Performance
Students will refine the year’s work and join Senior MTE to stage a large production number. The term ends with our annual MTE Spring Showcases, part of the HCA Theatre School Spring Studio Performance Series, in June.
