CLASS DESCRIPTION
Senior Musical Theatre Ensemble develops the skills teens need to audition for a musical and to perform successfully once cast, and builds confidence and a love of performing, whatever each student’s goals. Students will study voice, dance, and acting for the stage through classic and contemporary musical theatre repertoire, working on ensemble numbers, small group pieces, and solo material. Over the course of the year, every student sings a solo, plays a lead, and performs in the ensemble.
Each student receives individual attention and feedback shaped by their personal goals, whether that is a first audition, a stronger voice, or greater ease on stage. Students will build a library of audition repertoire, learn the tools to enter an audition with confidence, and perform for an audience three times over the year. They will grow more comfortable on stage and discover what they enjoy most about performing.
The class meets once a week, so it fits alongside school musicals, community theatre, and other commitments. Students already in a show often find the skills carry straight into their rehearsals.
Course Breakdown
Term One (September-November):
Ensemble Skills
Students will take dance, voice, and acting workshops, learn to take direction and pick up choreography, and tell stories through staged production numbers. This term ends with our annual MTE Winter Showcase in December.
Term Two (December-March):
Solo Work and Audition Preparation
Students will choose and prepare solo and small group material, practice acting through song, and take part in mock auditions in a supportive room. This term ends with the Solo Showcase in March.
Term Three (March-June):
Polish and Performance
Students will refine the year’s work and join Junior MTE to stage a large ensemble production number. This term ends with our annual MTE Spring Showcases, part of the HCA Theatre School Spring Studio Performance Series, in June.
TAKE THE STAGE! This program involves three invited presentations in December, March and June in the HCA Black Box Theatre.

MEET YOUR INSTRUCTOR
Emma Bergin
Emma is a Waterdown-born singer and voice teacher with a B.Mus in Voice Performance and M.Mus in Opera Performance from the University of Toronto. She teaches contemporary, commercial, and classical styles and is passionate about performing and supporting the arts community in Hamilton and Toronto.

Stephanie Hope Lawlor
Stephanie Hope Lawlor is an award-nominated actor, director, program creator, and teaching artist with over two decades of professional experience. A leader in Hamilton’s theatre community, she is passionate about developing emerging artists and creating inclusive, supportive spaces where students can build confidence, explore their craft, and grow.

Production Fee
There will be a one-time $70 production fee, to be paid in March 2027. This cover all printing, technical requirements, and other production-related expenses.

Please note that the listed tuition reflects the full year of classes. If you enroll after the program has started, class tuition will be automatically prorated based on the number of classes remaining in the year.
