ABOUT
Born and raised in Amiskwacîwâskahikan (Edmonton, Alberta), Vienna Johnson is a Queer-Métis artist now based in Treaty 3 (Hamilton, Ontario). She is fueled by her love for storytelling through music and movement, with a hope to find universality and cross-cultural resonance in what she creates.
She is a dancer, singer-songwriter, musician, actor and creator, and a graduate of the Toronto Metropolitan University Performance Dance Program. She is professionally trained in contemporary, improvisation, ballet, musical theatre, jazz, street styles, modern (Cuban), and West African. During her time at TMU, she has trained under an array of renowned artists including Vicki St Denys, Louis Laberge-Côté, Tanya Evidente, Raoul Wilke, Robert Glumbek, Arsenio Andrade, Kate Hilliard, Allen Kaeja and Lua Shayenne.
As an emerging choreographer/creator, Johnson has had the pleasure of working with choreographers Guillaume Côté, David Norsworthy, Roberto Campanella, and Valerie Calam. However, in addition to her work as a dancer/interpreter, she has also produced her own work titled, “Us and Them” with Citadel’s “(in)Momentum”. She learns the most through teaching the next generation of emerging artists and is fueled by their passion and curiosity.
